TASKE Websites Return IIS Error 500.19

Windows Update uninstalls .NET resulting in TASKE websites returning HTTP Error 500.19.

When accessing the TASKE Call Recording or the TASKE Administration Console website IIS returns HTTP Error 500.19. The error suggests that the web.config file contents are malformed. In fact, it is possible that Windows Update has uninstalled deprecated versions of .NET.

Validate Issue

The web.config file contains a reference to module “AspNetCoreModule”. This is the IIS extension (module) that is the bridge from IIS to .NET Core. It allows IIS to understand ASP.NET websites.

To verify this is the issue. Open IIS Manager and expand the tree to Default Web Site. Open the Modules feature by double clicking the Modules icon. If the AspNetCoreModule is not listed then the issue is confirmed.

Note: AspNetCoreModuleV2 is not currently used by TASKE applications. It is backward compatible with AspNetCoreModule version 1.

Download and install the Microsoft .NET Core Windows Server Hosting bundle.

Fix AspNetCoreModule

  1. Got to https://dotnet.microsoft.com/download/dotnet-core
  2. Open the Out of support versions section.*
  3. Click the .NET Core 2.1 link
  4. Click the Hosting Bundle link under the ASP.NET Core Runtime section.
  5. Run the downloaded setup to install the server hosting as well as both the x86 and x64 .NET Core runtimes.

Fix AspNetCoreModuleV2

Quick Fix

Repeat the steps above except click .NET Core 3.1 in step 3. *

Correct Fix

Edit the IIS configuration file and remove the reference to the missing DLL.

  1. Backup the file C:\WINDOWS\system32\inetsrv\config\applicationHost.config.
  2. Edit the file applicationHost.config to remove the line that looks like this:

    <add name="AspNetCoreModuleV2" image="%ProgramFiles%\IIS\Asp.Net Core Module\V2\aspnetcorev2.dll" />

  3. Restart IIS.

* Note: TASKE version 2022.2 has updated the .NET version to the supported 6.0 version. Please contact support for information about acquiring the upgrade.
