Summary
This article provides instruction for making your TASKE web application the default web site for the TASKE web server computer. This configuration is completed using Microsoft® Internet Information Services (IIS) and allows local network users to access the web application Sign In page using the server computer name in the web browser address bar.
Reason
Provide local network users of the TASKE web application with a shortcut to the Sign In page. With this shortcut, simply type the name of the TASKE web server computer in the address bar of the web browser to display the Sign In page. The full URL is no longer required.
Solution
Use Microsoft IIS to make the TASKE web application the default web site for the TASKE web server computer.
From the TASKE web server computer, open the Windows Control Panel, open Administrative Tools, and double-click Internet Information Services to display the Internet Information Services window. In the left-pane of the window, locate the default web site using the following path:
- Internet Information Services\<Computer Name> (local computer)\Web Sites
Right-click Default Web Site and select Properties to open the Default Web Site Properties page. Select the Home Directory tab. Change the Local Path to point to the installation folder of the web application on the TASKE web server computer. The default installation folders for TASKE web applications are:
- TASKE Contact - c:\taske8\webapps
- TASKE Reporter - c:\taske\webapps
- TASKE Essential - c:\taske\webapps
Apply this change before continuing.
Next, select the Documents tab. Ensure the Enable Default Document check box is selected. Click the Add button and type login.htm into the Add Default Document window. Select login.htm from the list of documents and move it to the top of the list using the up-arrow button. Apply this change to complete the configuration.
Test the configuration by opening a web browser on a computer that is connected to the same network as the TASKE web server computer. Type http://<TASKE web server computer name> in the address bar. The Sign In page should display.
