Summary
This article provides instruction for using the TASKE Client Configuration utility to set the IP address of the TASKE server computer at computers running TASKE Contact Windows1 desktop client applications. Any time the IP address of the TASKE server computer changes, this utility must be run at each client computer so the client applications can regain communication with the TASKE Contact server components.
- Windows refers to Microsoft® Windows operating systems.
Issue
The following error appears when attempting to launch a TASKE Windows desktop client application:
Unable to contact the TASKE server computer.
Please try again later. If the problem persists, contact your system administrator to verify the TASKE Information Server is started on the TASKE server computer and confirm your TASKE client configuration is correct.
TASKE Client Configuration:
TASKE Server Address: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
Site Data Path: \\TASKE Server Computer Name\SiteData\localWould you like to change your client configuration?
Reason
Communication with the TASKE server components is vital to many of the TASKE Contact Windows desktop client applications. Changing the IP address of the TASKE server computer will cause the above error to display and prevent the client applications from opening. Configuring the client computer with the new server computer IP address will allow these applications to resume communication with the TASKE server components and function properly.
Solution
Before changing any of the settings in the TASKE Client Configuration utility, verify that the IP address of the TASKE server computer has changed and obtain the new IP address or the computer name.
Once the IP address or the name of the TASKE server computer is in hand, go to a client computer and launch a TASKE Windows desktop client application. Click Yes in the TASKE Error window to launch the TASKE Client Configuration utility and input the new IP address or computer name for the TASKE server computer in the Server Address box.
This changes the TASKE server IP address for all TASKE Windows desktop client applications installed on the computer. Continue to each computer running TASKE Windows desktop client applications (including the TASKE server computer) and use the above instructions to reset to server IP address.
