Summary
This article provides instruction for using Microsoft® Windows Remote Desktop Connection to remotely manage TASKE server computers running Windows Server 2003.
Important: when using Remote Desktop Connection, the remote user must log into the TASKE server computer with the SAME user account that is currently logged into the TASKE server computer.
Issue
Physical access to the TASKE server computer is limited or after-hours administration tasks are required.
Solution
Remote Desktop Connection is a Windows application that allows a user to remotely log into and operate other computers. Before using Remote Desktop Connection to remotely manage the TASKE server computer, configure the application to use the existing session of the TASKE server computer.
To do this, open the Remote Desktop Connection properties page on the remote computer and select the Shortcut tab. Append the information in the Target field with a space and -console, so it appears as follows:
<path>\mstsc.exe -console
Once this change is complete, launch Remote Desktop Connection and log into the TASKE server computer with the SAME user account that is currently logged into the TASKE server computer. Logging into the computer with a different user account will log off the current user and close all open applications, including the TASKE server applications required for data collection.
