Summary
By default Microsoft® Internet Explorer reuses open browser windows to display links or uniform resource locator (URL) shortcuts. URL links or shortcuts are activated by:
-
clicking a link in an email or document or double-clicking a URL file from the Windows desktop
-
opening a site by typing its URL in the Windows Run dialog box. Open this dialog box by clicking Start on the Windows desktop and selecting Run from the menu.
-
using the Windows Address or Links toolbars to access a URL
TASKE web applications are not immune to this setting and clicking a URL link or shortcut will reuse the open browser window. Reconfiguring how Internet Explorer uses browser windows forces links or shortcuts to open in new browser windows. This protects the TASKE web application from being replaced by a new site in the browser window.
Issue
The destination of URL links or shortcuts replace TASKE web applications in the browser window.
Reason
The default settings of Microsoft Internet Explorer allow URL links or shortcuts to reuse open browser windows.
Note: if a link or shortcut has opened a new site in the browser window, it is important to sign into the TASKE web application again and officially sign out. Leaving a TASKE web application without signing out means the TASKE Web Server will continue to hold the supervisor license until it reaches the time limit for inactivity. For further information on this, refer to Article 10055: Releasing User Licenses by Signing Out of TASKE Web Applications.
Solution
Use the following steps to reconfigure Internet Explorer to open new browser windows for URL links and shortcuts.
-
Open an Internet Explorer window.
-
Select Internet Options... from the Tools menu to open the Internet Options window.
-
Select the Advanced tab.
-
In the Browsing list, disable the Reuse windows for launching shortcuts check box.
- Click OK to accept the new settings and close the Internet Options window.
