Article 10064: Client Installations of TASKE Contact Version 8.5 Cannot Launch the Java 2 Runtime Environment Installation

Summary
This article explains why the client installation program for TASKE Contact Version 8.5 cannot launch the Java™ 2 Runtime Environment installation program and provides information for installing the application following the TASKE Contact client installation. Installation of the Java 2 Runtime Environment enables the print command in Visualizer.
Issue
When installing or upgrading to TASKE Contact Version 8.5, Build 2200 or later, the following warning displays:
Setup could not launch the Java 2 Runtime Environment installation program. Please launch j2re-1_4_1_02-windows-i586.exe from the Setups folder on the TASKE Contact server to update your computer.
Reason
The installation program for the Java Runtime Environment installs in the Setups folder on the TASKE Contact server computer. The warning occurs because the client installation for TASKE Contact Version 8.5 cannot locate and launch the Java 2 Runtime Environment installation program, j2re-1_4_1_02-windows-i586.exe.
The instances where the client installation program will not launch j2re-1_4_1_02-windows-i586.exe are:

Automatic upgrades - the automatic upgrade installation program does not know the location of the Setups folder on the TASKE Contact server computer. Users must manually browse to the Setups folder following the upgrade and launch j2re-1_4_1_02-windows-i586.exe.
- New client installations - if the Setups
folder does not reside in the default location of \\TASKE8
or the folder is not shared, the TASKE Contact client setup cannot
locate and launch j2re-1_4_1_02-windows-i586.exe.
When this occurs, users must manually browse to the Setups
folder following the installation and launch j2re-1_4_1_02-windows-i586.exe.
Note: during new client installations j2re-1_4_1_02-windows-i586.exe will launch if the Setups folder is in the default location of \\TASKE8 on the server computer and the folder is shared.
