Summary

This article explains why users should sign out of TASKE web applications before closing the browser window or going to another web address.

Issue

The TASKE Web Server is not releasing user licenses when users leave TASKE web applications.

Reason

The TASKE Web Server is unaware of the browser status for users of TASKE web applications. The Web Server simply serves information to the browser on request. Therefore, when a user finishes a session and closes the browser window without signing out, the Web Server does not know it needs to release the user license.

Solution

The Web Server automatically releases a user license after a defined period of time passes without a request from the user. This timeout value is set through the Microsoft® Internet Information Services (IIS) configuration and the default is 20 minutes.

The simplest method for preventing the Web Server from holding licenses until reaching the timeout is for users to always click the Sign out link when finishing a session with a TASKE web application. If a user does close the browser window before clicking the Sign out link, it is not necessary to wait for the Web Server to automatically release the license. Just sign into the application again with the same user ID and password and click the Sign out link to immediately release the license.
