Issue

The Scheduler could not run task since user preference files do not exist warning appears in the log file every hour.

Reason

This warning is the result of the TASKE Server service searching for user preference files. These files contain automatic report generation schedules and the TASKE Server service checks the files once each hour for a list of reports to generate. If the service cannot locate any user preference files it generates the warning in the TASKE log file.

Each TASKE user has a user preference file and this file is automatically created the first time a user logs into the TASKE web site. There are two reasons why user preference files may be absent, thus generating the warning. These reasons are:

  1. the TASKE web site is present and operational, but no users have ever logged in

  2. the TASKE Server service is started at a site that is not using the TASKE web application

Solution

The steps for eliminating this warning from the log file vary according to the usage of the TASKE web application. Specifically, is the site using the TASKE web site or not? Use the links below to view the appropriate instructions for the situation at the site.

  1. The site is using the TASKE web site

  2. The site is not using the TASKE web site

For Sites Using the TASKE Web Site

For sites where the TASKE site is present and operational, the presence of the Scheduler could not run task since user preference files do not exist warning in the log file indicates that there are no existing user preference files. A single user logging into the TASKE site automatically creates a user preference file and eliminates future occurrences of the warning in the log file.

Use the following steps to log into the TASKE web site:

  1. Open the web browser and go to the TASKE web site. The site address should appear as follows:

    http://myTASKE Web Server name/myTASKE/login.htm

This address takes users directly to the sign in page.
  2. Input the user name and password assigned by the system administrator and click Sign In. This action immediately creates a user preference file for the user signing in.
  3. Sign out of the TASKE web site by clicking the Sign off link before closing the browser window.

For Sites not Using the TASKE Web Site

The TASKE Server service is installed on the TASKE server computer at all sites. However, this service should only be started if the site is using the TASKE web site. At sites where the TASKE site is not in use, the presence of the Scheduler could not run task since user preference files do not exist warning in the log file indicates the TASKE Server service is started. Stopping this service through TASKE Console at the TASKE server computer eliminates future occurrences of the warning in the log file.

Use the following steps to stop the TASKE Server service through TASKE Console:

  1. At the TASKE server computer, display the TASKE Console interface by double-clicking the Console icon in the task bar.
  2. Select Status to display the Status tab.
  3. Select TASKE Server in the component list.
  4. Select Stop from the Action menu to stop the TASKE Server service.
