Summary

This article documents the steps required to select the area codes within your local calling area using the Administrator application. Once selected, TASKE Reports uses this information to determine the origin of incoming calls that are dialed without an area code.

Issue

When attempting to select the area codes for the local calling area on the Generation tab in the Report Options page of the Administrator, the drop-down lists are empty.

Reason

The aclist.dat file, where the area code information resides, was not installed during the TASKE Contact Server installation.

Solution

Use the following steps to download the aclist.dat file and identify the area codes within your local calling area.

  1. Click the Download link below to begin downloading the aclist.zip file.

    Download

  2. Extract aclist.dat from aclist.zip to the \\TASKE8\SiteData folder on the TASKE server computer.

  3. Open TASKE Administrator at the TASKE server computer.

  4. Select the Report Options page and display the Generation tab.

  5. Populate the fields titled Area codes within your local calling area with the area codes that may be dialed locally in your area.

Note: you do not have to populate all four fields. If you mistakenly populate a field with an improper area code, re-populate that field with one of the local area codes already selected.

  6. Click Update.

From this point forward the Reports application will attempt to match all incoming calls that are dialed without an area code to the area codes identified as local.

Background

The Generation tab in the Report Options page of the Administrator contains four drop-down lists titled Area codes within your local calling area. The aclist.dat file is required to populate these drop-down lists. Once one or more of these fields is populated with an area code the Reports application is able to apply the appropriate area codes to 7-digit automatic number identification (ANI) strings. If the area codes within the local calling area are not identified, the Reports application cannot properly identify the origin of the call.

For instance, in New York, New York, numbers within both the 212 and 718 area codes may be dialed locally. When encountering a 7-digit ANI string, such as 555-1234, the Reports application knows to search the city codes for these two area codes and apply the appropriate area code to the string.
